Adam Manning: Embodied Rhythm
Embodied Rhythm explores rhythm as something lived, felt and shared across sound, painting and moving image. Rather than treating rhythm as something fixed or measured, the exhibition considers how pulse and pattern are shaped by memory, place, culture and relationships.
At the centre of the exhibition is the practice of rhythmist, artist, composer, producer and Artistic Researcher at the University of Newcastle, Adam Manning. His acrylic paintings are created in collaboration with his mother, Margaret Manning, with one work extending this exchange across three generations through the contribution of his son, Drew Manning.
Drawing on environmental rhythms, cultural memory and embodied practice, Embodied Rhythm considers rhythm as a form of connection and exchange. Through collaboration with family and the Australian Art Orchestra, Manning invites audiences to listen closely and experience rhythm as something continually unfolding across body, material, Country and place.
