Beyond the Dot
Beyond the Dot – highlights from the yapang collection from the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang
Since the year 2000 the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang has met with the Aboriginal Reference Group, with a focus on Aboriginal art programming and projects within our community. Our collection reflects this vital and unique community driven relationship. Beyond the Dot – highlights from the yapang collection, Museum of Art and Culture, yapang pays homage to this growing collection of artworks held onsite and of the commitment to contemporary Aboriginal art, to the people behind the artworks and to the audiences receiving them.
The word yapang (pronounced yar-pung) means journey/pathway in Awabakal and is part of the naming of the museum – as a natural progression of the 25-year relationship between the art museum and Aboriginal Reference Group. Our practices embed a reciprocal and collaborative approach for true representation, we pay homage to those who have paved the way for us to continue on this journey to facilitate a space in which Aboriginal voices can be heard, in this case, in the form of art.
