Call & Response

Jane Richens
July 4, 2026 – August 2, 2026

Jane Richens is a visual artist and biodiversity farmer who connects contemporary fibre art, ecology and historical research. This exhibition is the culmination of her work as the 2026 Artist in Residence at the Fibre Makers Space, Brough House where Jane has spent four months responding to the collection and surrounding landscapes of Grossmann and Brough Houses.

Through plant fibre experimentation, botanical research, mapping of early regional vegetation & wearable sculptural forms, her work explores the relationships between local rainforest species, historic dress and place. At the centre of the exhibition is a life-size silhouette inspired by an 1870s dress, reimagined using local rainforest plant fibres.

"Call & Response" is in the Cecily Mitchell Gallery on the ground floor of Brough House, Maitland and is open Fridays and Weekends, 10-3pm until 2nd August.

This exhibition is held in association with the National Trust NSW.
