Clay Connections: A Dialogue Across Time and Land
Season 5 at Wester will open on 30 January with a new exhibition by Dr. Moj Habibi, an Iranian–Australian artist currently working in Moree.
Habibi is a conceptual installation artist whose practice spans ceramics, calligraphy, and sculptural forms, grounded in poetry, mythology, nature, and history. Her work explores themes of transformation, resilience, and cultural dialogue, shaped by her advocacy for human rights and social justice.
Her upcoming exhibition, Clay Connections, presents a series of newly completed installations that have not yet been exhibited. Working with terracotta and white clay, Habibi creates hand-formed story circles arranged in constellation-like rhythms. These forms draw on visual languages from both Kamilaroi Country and Persian traditions, incorporating symbols such as eyes, seeds, flames, and flowing lines.
Clay becomes a bridge between cultures — between memory and possibility, stability and openness — inviting quiet reflection, shared presence, and listening. The work holds space for many narratives, honouring what is remembered while embracing what is transformed.
