Hide Kobayashi has worked as a plein air painter for more than 15 years, responding to changing light, colour and atmosphere in the landscape.

In Drama in the Sky, Kobayashi focuses on the dramatic skies and reflections that appear over the water in the early morning. These fleeting conditions often change within minutes, so the artist draws on plein air observation and memory to recreate their intensity in the studio.

The exhibition captures the unusual colours, shifting light and heightened atmosphere of the coast at daybreak.
