Horizon Abstraction
Horizon Abstraction presents new work by Virginia Cuppaidge, whose long career has moved between Australia and New York, with abstraction shaped by colour, space, light and landscape.
Born in Brisbane in 1943, Cuppaidge moved to New York in 1969 and lived and worked there for almost five decades. Her practice has included major bodies of work such as the Geometrics and Skyspace series, with thirty-nine solo exhibitions, public commissions and awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1976.
Since returning to Australia in 2017, Cuppaidge has lived in Newcastle. In this exhibition, her paintings continue an ongoing engagement with nature, horizon, sky and the spatial possibilities of colour.
