‘Athenas’ is a group of experienced Newcastle artists working in a variety of media. For their annual group exhibition, they typically work towards a common theme. However, this show moves away from a themed collection of works and instead their emphasis is on the process of creating their individual approach to making art using a variety of media and techniques. This has resulted in a very diverse collection of artworks.

The title of the exhibition ‘I am Here’ relates to the ‘sense of self’ as an artist and as an individual. It is where the artist is now in their artmaking practice without the sometimes-restrictive constraints of working to a given theme.
