Red Ox, Green Ox
A two-person presentation pairing Newcastle artists Nicola Hensel and John Turier. Hensel’s finely observed drawings and mixed-media works trace the poetics of the everyday, attending to domestic detail and the quiet pulse of nature. Turier brings a parallel language of sculpture and object-making, shifting between lyrical abstraction and narrative fragments. Together, the exhibition sets up a conversation between mark and material: Hensel’s intimate, slow-breathing surfaces beside Turier’s tactile forms and inventive structures. The title ‘Red Ox, Green Ox’ hints at duality, rhythm and balance—ideas that ripple through the installation. The opening day runs as an extended meet-the-artists session, welcoming audiences into process and practice.
