This exhibition celebrates Richard Tipping’s long-standing creative practice and his deep connection with MAC yapang, where his work is represented in both the Sculpture Park and the Visual Arts Collection.

Marking 30 years since HEAR THE ART was installed in the MAC yapang Sculpture Park in 1996, the exhibition brings together works that trace Tipping’s ongoing exploration of language, typography, poetry and place.

Presented across the gallery and Sculpture Park, the exhibition offers an energetic insight into the artist’s conceptual approach, from his reimagining of text as object to his commanding use of stone, granite and related materials.

Several works from the exhibition will be acquired into MAC yapang’s Visual Arts Collection, continuing the institution’s relationship with this significant Australian artist.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Tipping will also launch his book Hear the Art: Visual Poetry as Sculpture, which includes a chapter on the outdoor sculpture at MAC yapang.
