Sacred
Discarded roadside chairs sit at the centre of Sacred, transformed from dirty, broken and unloved objects into quiet witnesses of human presence.
The exhibition brings together salvaged chairs, antique timber and fragments of domestic furniture, giving new voice to materials once shaped by function, movement and everyday life. Dark walnut timber, instantly recognisable and deeply familiar, evokes ideas of home, warmth and comfort, while also carrying something more complex, shadowed and haunting.
Jonathan Everett brings a deep knowledge of design, fabrication and fine craftsmanship to the work. With a background in carpentry, furniture making and exhibition design, his practice is grounded in material understanding, clear thinking and a commitment to beautifully resolved objects.
Through these reworked fragments of furniture, Sacred captures emotionally charged memories of dark rooms, lace curtains, cigarettes burning in ashtrays, laughter, arguments and roast dinners. The result is a poetic reflection on memory, domestic history and the traces we leave behind.
