The Year of the Horse

Olivia Parsonage
April 11, 2026 – May 3, 2026

Created in the Year of the Horse, 2026, this body of work continues the artist’s exploration of storytelling through fabric and found materials. These textile works carry a quiet sense of strangeness and solitude, balanced by curiosity and reflection, and draw on the shifting energy associated with this astrological year.

The artist’s ideas emerge from a wide range of sources, including images encountered online, in books, on television, in dreams and during walks in nature. Often, the strongest ideas take shape through the act of making itself, as materials are handled, tested and sewn.

Working primarily with patchwork, appliqué and embroidery, the artist combines machine stitching with hand sewing to build layered, image-based works. Painting is also becoming part of the process, extending the practice further into mixed media.

Their influences are broad, shaped by artists across many mediums. Colour, scale, expression and theme all play a role in what draws their attention and continues to inform the work.
