Newcastle Art Gallery

Newcastle Art Gallery is a major public art institution in Newcastle, New South Wales, housing one of Australia’s most significant civic art collections outside the capital cities. It originated from a philanthropic gift of paintings and drawings in 1945, officially opening to the public in 1957, and since 1977 has occupied a purpose-built premises on Laman Street. In 2026 it reopened after a major expansion which more than doubled its size and added upgraded facilities including a café, a shop, educational and multi-purpose spaces, and an international-standard loading dock.
